Retail & Multi-Site Consumer Operations

Published July 2026 · Last updated July 2026

Multi-site retail is a forecasting business wearing a merchandising costume. The season you stock for is the one that decides the year, and it is largely determined by conditions nobody in the building controls.

Who this is for

Specialty retail, grocery and food retail, home and furnishings retail, sporting goods and outdoor, apparel and footwear, jewelry, travel and duty-free retail, and multi-location commerce operators.

The problem

Inventory position and demand are measured in different systems, on different cycles, at different levels of granularity — so the question “what’s selling where, and do we have it there” takes a week to answer and is stale when it arrives. By then the decision has been made by default.

Weather is a first-order driver of sell-through in most retail categories, and it is almost never in the forecast. A mild spring in one region and a heat wave in another produce two entirely different inventory problems, and last year’s plan anticipates neither.

Shrink, turns, and markdown are managed as separate problems by separate people, when they’re symptoms of the same underlying position. And promotional performance is usually measured on lift rather than on profit, which is how a successful promotion loses money.

What we build

Embedded operational intelligence. Sell-through against inventory position, at store, region, category, and SKU — with margin, not just units.

External signal intelligence. Temperature, precipitation, degree-day, and seasonality signals joined to regional sell-through, plus consumer and category price indices tied to cost of goods. Demand modelled on the season that’s coming, not the one that just ended.

Peer benchmarking. Turns, GMROI, shrink, sales per square foot, and basket metrics against comparable operators by format and size.

Natural-language analysis. Ask which regions are running hot on sell-through and short on stock, and act on it the same day.

Measures we surface

How it’s delivered

Pathfinder Elements brings the platform to market three ways. We work directly with organizations where a sector’s operating model calls for close design work. We license to resellers and distribution partners who already serve a market and deliver the platform, configured, to their own customers. And we co-develop sector capability with software and services partners, combining our analytics core with their domain systems and market access. Prospective partners are welcome to get in touch.
